Who we are

BarterBin (barterbin.ca) is a free online classifieds service operated from British Columbia, Canada. By creating an account, posting a listing, or otherwise using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use BarterBin.

We are an advertising venue, not a party to your deals

BarterBin provides a place for people to advertise items, property, and services and to contact each other. We are not a broker, agent, dealer, auctioneer, escrow service, or payment processor, and we are not a party to any transaction between users. We do not own, inspect, or verify the items listed, we do not guarantee the truth or accuracy of any listing, and we do not transfer title or handle payment between buyers and sellers. Any deal you make — including price, payment, delivery, and the condition of goods — is strictly between you and the other person. Meet safely, inspect before you pay, and use your judgment.

Accounts

You must be the age of majority in your province (or use the site under the supervision of a parent or guardian) and provide accurate account information. You are responsible for activity under your account. Posting on BarterBin is free; we may apply reasonable posting quotas and rate limits to keep the site healthy.

Listing rules

You may only list things you actually have the right to sell, rent, or offer, and your listings must be accurate and lawful. Without limiting that, you must not post:

• anything illegal to sell or advertise in Canada or your province (including firearms and other weapons, controlled substances, stolen property, counterfeit goods, and recalled products);
• rental-housing or real-estate ads that discriminate contrary to human-rights law — housing listings must comply with fair-housing rules;
• scams, bait listings, pyramid or advance-fee schemes, or listings for items you do not possess;
• spam, bulk-scraped content, or ads for other classifieds sites;
• sexually explicit services or content.

We may remove any listing, restrict any account, or refuse any content at our discretion, with or without notice, if we believe it breaks these rules or harms the site or its users.

Messages and conduct

The messaging feature exists to arrange transactions. Do not use it to harass, threaten, or defraud anyone, or to send unsolicited commercial messages. We may review messages that are reported to us and act on abuse.

Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and text you post. By posting, you give BarterBin a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, reproduce, and promote that content in connection with operating and marketing the site (for example, showing your listing in search results, category pages, and social previews). This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for cached or archival copies made in the ordinary course of running the service.

Partner and affiliate listings

Some listings on BarterBin are syndicated from retail partners and dealers with their consent. These are labelled, always ranked below organic listings from real local users, and may contain affiliate links — if you click one and make a purchase from the retailer, BarterBinmay earn a commission at no cost to you. Pages with affiliate links carry a disclosure. Your purchase from a partner retailer is governed by that retailer's own terms, not ours.

Disclaimer and liability

BarterBinis provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, BarterBin and its operator are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from any transaction or interaction with another user, including lost profits, lost data, or indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to CAD $100. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer-protection law that cannot be waived.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify BarterBin and its operator against claims arising from your listings, your content, or your breach of these terms.

Termination

You can stop using BarterBin and delete your listings at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (content licence, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity) survive termination.

Changes

We may update these terms as the site evolves. We will post the new version here with an updated date; continued use after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Disputes belong to the courts of British Columbia.
